Do you need to have better management of your emotions? Do you struggle to get your needs met? Are your relationships difficult? Do you have difficulty feeling happy and content? Does success elude you?
Do you move through life, pretending that you have everything handled – presenting a completely ‘together’ façade to the world - yet internally, you’re a mass of confusion, fear and unfulfilled dreams?
TLA's Turning Point is an experiential program designed to allow you to explore who you are, how you came to be that way, what's working, what's not, and what you need to have different. (And “Experiential” simply means that we don’t only talk about the concepts we’re working with, you actually get to have an experience of them, to work out how they apply to you, and to integrate their effectiveness into your day to day life.)
Most of us know that there is more to us than the person who is reading this website right now. Who we are today is a conglomeration of all of the experiences we have had, the significant relationships we've had and the messages we took from them, the decisions we’ve made as a result of those experiences, and the beliefs, attitudes, assumptions and values that we’ve developed. But while we can understand that as a concept, really knowing it, feeling it, and being able to do something about it is the realm of TLA's Turning Point. TLA's Turning Point is about you having choice.
For many people, recent global events have reminded us that the meaning that we place on our lives, the satisfaction we gain, and our capacity to be in relationship with others now, more than ever before, needs to be our major priority. And to do that, we need first to improve our relationship with ourselves.
TLA's Turning Point is 40 hours of time, space and opportunity for you to develop the necessary self awareness, skills and tools to best advance you, on your terms. It is a real life, real time, opportunity to be the best you that you can be within an unbelievably supportive and trusting environment. And it’s one of the best gifts you’ll ever give yourself, or someone else.
The program is solidly grounded in the development of Emotional Intelligence, a skill recognised as an essential tool for our times. It also brings together the best of internationally available contemporary perspectives psychologically and philosophically.
TLA's Turning Point has been presented in Victoria for the last 20 years. The program continually evolves in line with current theories, always maintaining it’s commitment to integrity, to transformation, and to each participant having the power to make the choices they want and need to make in their own lives.
And, we're really proud of the way TLA's Turning Point has evolved in Victoria - the combination of the way it is taught, the theories that underpin it, and the approach of the organisation make it absolutely unique in the personal development field.
Participants are gently supported into developing self awareness in their own way and on their own terms; opportunities are presented for you to take up if you feel ready to do so; we respect the individual as their own best mentor and asset with the best insight into who they are and how they have become that way; we build relationships with our course participants and understand it is our job to bring as much empathy as we can to that relationship to ensure that you develop a sense of someone really 'getting' you. Over and over and over again, we've seen people who's lives change because we took the time to try to understand how it is for them. We meet you where you are at. We don't expect you to be somewhere you can't be. And, when you let us know that you feel as though we have been able to understand you, we then work to offer new, positive experiences of being in relationship.
Who does TLA's Turning Point?
Participants come from every walk of life, every culture, every age from 18 onwards, every background, every outlook, every religious persuasion. What you share is either a desire to have the best possible life and/or recognition of experiences that appear to prevent you from having that life.
TLA's Turning Point does not offer a ‘one size fits all’ approach to personal development and is, in effect, an open, integral body of work. You are offered a series of opportunities that will enable you to take the best steps forward for you, because you know that to be true, and not because anyone thinks you should.
We receive referrals from a wide range of individuals and organisations. Doctors, therapists, multinational organisations, husbands, wives, psychologists, small businesses, sporting groups, children, parents, psychiatrists, professional associations, well known youth organisations, recognised celebrities and successful business people all recommend TLA's Turning Point.
Are there people who shouldn’t do TLA's Turning Point?
Yes. The Turning Point is a group, adult education experience and is not intended to be therapeutic in nature. While we are committed to empathic enquiry and responsiveness, and we are informed by contemporary theories and practices, if you know that you would be much better served by seeking one on one support, or that the issues that you are dealing with are beyond an adult education program, then we recommend you obtain the support that you need. We're happy to do what we can to help you in that regard by assisting you with contact details for different practitioners according to your need, including psychiatrists, psychologists and other health professionals.
We have a number of different processes in place, conducted at every stage of our relationship with potential and actual participants, to assist us in determining whether The Turning Point is appropriate for the individual concerned. This includes ensuring that we have a trained therapist on each course, that participant disclosures are verified, and that we have established a number of important external relationships with various professionals and organisations for referral, education and supervisory purposes. And if at any point our observations indicate that someone is on the course who won’t get value from it, or for whom the course is not in their best interests, we take our responsibility to find something else that will work for them very seriously.
Our organisation does not accept participants who have a recent history of chronic mental illness, participants under the care of a treating professional who have not obtained that professional's consent to participant, or people who demonstrate a propensity towards psychological fragility or a significant lack of cohesion. Our organisation does not accept juveniles onto adult education programs.
If you are unsure as to whether TLA's Turning Point is for you, please consult your doctor, a friend or family member, or someone that you trust to discuss your decision. To assist you, TLA has provided answers to a list of questions we recommend you have answered by any personal development provider prior to registering. You can read that document here.
